"The time travel aspect of the story gives us the opportunity to use some really cool storytelling techniques, and we're going to be doing some stuff that will really melt brains. He went on to list those elements, which included:īrown - who shares artist and co-writer duties on Split Second - has worked in Marvel's Infinite Comics before with Deadpool: Dracula's Gauntlet, and he promises to pull out all the stops this time: " Split Second has what any good story featuring Deadpool and Cable needs to have," Niceaza answered (and he would know, seeing as how he co-created the character with Rob Liefeld).

Don't forget that part!"ĭeadpool & Cable: Split Second #1 will premiere in October as a six-issue digital first series in Marvel's Infinite Comics format. "Also," added Brown, "Deadpool shoots a lot of guys. "If we fail to answers those questions for each and every one of our readers, then we will have failed in our assignment." "It is about struggling through a life of regret and struggling through the soulful tug of conscience that nags at us as a species, tasking us to ask of ourselves, 'Is this all I am? Is this all I can be? Do I have the courage to be more?' Now, Marvel is bringing the creators back for a whole new spin on Cable & Deadpool.ĭeadpool & Cable: Split Second is about "love lost and love found," Nicieza told Polygon. Cable, who we remember as the tough troubled father figure in Cable and X-Force and the old Cable & Deadpool series, here is reduced to a MacGuffin for Deadpool going on a journey alone. However, according to the title, this is supposed to be a buddy story. In general, he appears more like a hero who does good for good's sake. The character itself is written as standard Deadpool without any exceptionally interesting features or traits, and he is missing his schizophrenia. Deadpool simply does what he is expected to do to fix the time stream. While that is normal in a Deadpool comic, the plot is missing changes and challenges. The story is not exactly creative and yet very confusing. What follows is Deadpool travelling through Cable's periods of life trying to fix time.

They eventually find out that a man from the future returns to the past and tries to save a relative. But first, here is a brief summary of the plot: Deadpool is killing Hydra agents for S.H.I.E.L.D., when Cable, hooded and merely a Shadow of himself, appears and asks Deadpool for help, because he had a vision of him killing an innocent man, which would disturb the time integrity. The art is done by Jay Leisten, who is known for his work on DC's Lanterns, and Reilly Brown, who already worked on our favorite merc with the mouth.Įxpectations towards the series naturally were high. This series has been critically acclaimed because the writer, Fabian Nicieza, had already written the early series in the 1990s.
